Essential Oils 101

Throughout history essential oils have been used to promote health and well-being because of their therapeutic properties.

Essential oils are botanical extracts from plants, herbs, and trees. These compounds are found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of the plant. 

Verefina essential oils are of the highest grade quality and can be used in a variety of ways.

*Uses:

· Topical- Rub them on your body.

Dilution- Some oils are hot and may need to be diluted with Olive oil, sunflower oil, or Verefina Fractionated Coconut Oil. All are great carrier oils for dilution. Oils should be diluted in a 5:1 ratio (5 drops carrier oil to 1 drop essential oil) for small areas and 1 oz: 12 ratio (1 oz carrier oil to 12 drops essential oil) for larger areas. Water increases the effectiveness of the essential oil so it needs to be diluted in a carrier oil to reduce effectiveness. If skin reacts to essential oil apply vegetable oil or other carrier oil to area, NOT water. 

· Aromatic- Inhaling essential oils. Diffusing the oils into the air can be stimulating, calming, or soothing depending on the oil. Some oils also cleanse and purify the air. Verefina offers a luxurious diffuser that infuses the air with beneficial oils creating a spa-like relaxation in home. Oils can also be put in a steam pot, kettle, or crock pot or sprayed from a bottle in a ratio of 4 oz water to ¼ tsp essential oil.

· Dietary- Used internally. Essential oils can be used as dietary supplements supporting a variety of health conditions. Many essentials oils are regarded as safe for dietary use, but others should not be taken internally. Many oils can also be a great addition to cooking or baking.

Verefina Essentials Oils:

1. Clove Bud- *For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. Dilution necessary. Avoid use if pregnant.

Traditional used for skin infections, digestive problems, and toothaches. If tooth aches, add to a cotton swab and apply.

Also good for asthma, arthritis, bronchitis, pain, sprains, and strains. Clove oil is useful for its disinfecting properties.

2. Eucalyptus- *For topical or aromatic use. Dilute for children or those with sensitive skin.
It is used widely to ease and calm breathing. It is often an ingredient in cough and throat medicines. Eucalyptus oil has a cooling and deodorizing effect on the body, helping with fevers, and migraines. It soothes inflammation and eases mucus, clearing the head from the stuffiness of colds and hay fever.
Eucalyptus oil can be used around your home to replace many environmentally harsh synthetic chemicals. Dilute in water and use to clean house or spray bedding to kill dust mites.

May be added to freshen clothes by adding 2 drops to a cotton cloth and place in dryer.

3. Pink Grapefruit- .* For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. Dilution not necessary

Pink Grapefruit has been known to uplift and balance. Its pleasant scent not only lifts your spirit, but has also been used to relieve fatigue, headaches, and other ailments.
This refreshing oil helps to boost digestion, benefits the immune system by helping to clear the lymphatic system, helps with skin problems, and can be used for muscle stiffness, water retention and for bolstering the nervous system.

4. Lavender- * For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. Dilution not necessary

Lavender oil is one of the most versatile oils and is handy to have around the house, as it can be used for such a variety of problems. When in doubt, use Lavender.

This essential oil is known for its calming and relaxing properties. Great to diffuse Lavender in room at night to reduce insomnia

It not only helps with nervous conditions, it is useful for the digestive system, the respiratory tract and skin problems, it also helps with muscle aches and pains and arthritis and rheumatism.
Lavender is especially useful when treating a minor burn wound.

Lavender is a great headache remedy, just massage into temples and neck.

Lavender can be used as an insect repellant.

5. Lemon-* For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. Dilution not necessary. Avoid direct sunlight for up to 12 hours after use.

Lemon has a myriad of uses, among them energizing and raising your mood. This oil may also be beneficial in cleansing skin and relieving sore throats. Also excellent in removing gum and grease spots.

It is wonderful in drinking water and may promote weight loss. Lemon oil helps to fight against infections, aids the digestive system, soothes headaches, migraines and muscular problems and clears acne, greasy skin and hair.

Lemon also boosts the immune system and cleanses the body, improves the functions of the digestive system, and it is helpful with constipation, dyspepsia and cellulite.

Lemon can be used in cooking and baking to add flavor and health benefits.

Lemon can be added to dishwasher or dishwater for scent and additional cleansing.

Dilute Lemon oil in a spray bottle, 4 oz water to 1-4 tsp Lemon and spray around house to clean and deodorize.

6. Lime- *For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. Dilution not necessary. Avoid direct sunlight for up to 12 hours after use.
Lime has a refreshing lively fragrance reminiscent of summertime citrus. It can energize and help one overcome exhaustion.

Lime oil is beneficial to the immune system, easing infection in the respiratory tract and relieving pain in muscles and joints, while revitalizing a tired mind and banishing the feeling of apathy, anxiety and depression.
It can be helpful for arthritis and poor circulation, as well as for obesity and cellulite and has an astringent and toning action to clear oily skin and acne, and also helps with herpes, insect bites and cuts.

Lime is a great choice to use on children.

7. Orange Sweet- *For aromatic, topically, or dietary use. Dilution not necessary. Avoid direct sunlight for up to 12 hours after use.
Orange essential oil is used to uplift and energize while at the same time promoting a peaceful state of mind.
Orange is sunny and radiant oil, bringing happiness and warmth to the mind and helps people to relax and helps children to sleep at night. Orange oil can be used effectively on the immune system, as well as for colds and flu and to eliminate toxins from the body.
It is a good diuretic and is most useful in balancing water retention and obesity. Its lymphatic stimulant action further helps to balance water processes, detoxification, aiding the immune system and general well-being.
For the digestive system, orange oil can help with constipation, dyspepsia and as a general tonic. It is also useful in cases of nervous tension and stress.

Orange oil is great in cooking and baking or in morning smoothies.

Orange oil is a great choice for children.

8. Peppermint- * For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. Dilute for children or those with sensitive skin. It should be avoided during pregnancy and should not be used on children under seven.
Peppermint has long been used to invigorate the mind and body, to help with digestive problems, and as a headache remedy.
Peppermint oil can assist in nervous disorders and is dramatically effective in stimulating the mind and focusing concentration, for treating the respiratory tract, muscular aches and pains and for some skin problems.

9. Spearmint- * For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. Dilution for children or for those with sensitive skin. Avoid use on babies or during pregnancy.
Spearmint is a rich antioxidant and has a minty scent that is more subtle than peppermint. This essential oil may help support the nervous, digestive, and respiratory system.
When your mind is tired and in need of stimulating and uplifting, then spearmint oil is the one for you.

Can be dropped in mouth or sprayed to freshen breath.

10. Tea Tree- (Melaleuca) *For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. Dilution not necessary.
Tea Tree is one of the most widely used essential oils. Historically, the leaves of the melaleuca tree were used to assist in healing cuts and skin infections. Tea tree’s strong immune building properties make it a must for your essential oil cabinet.
Tea tree oil is one of the most powerful immune stimulant oils and helps fight infections of all kinds and helps clear the skin. Great for spot treatment of skin to treat acne. One drop in hand and rub around for hand sanitizer.
Tea tree oil is very important in the health of the immune system, as it increases the body's ability to fight off any infections. If you have a sore throat gargle a few drops of Tea Tree with warm water.

When tea tree oil is blended into a cream or lotion and applied to the skin, it will help to clear up any fungal, bacterial as well as viral infections.

Tea Tree oil is also great with Lavender and Eucalyptus.

11. Immunity Oil- *For topical, aromatic, or dietary use. If pregnant or lactating, consult a practitioner before use.

Our Immunity blend is formulated to support a healthy immune system. This proprietary blend of five immunity-boosting essential oils offers you a natural and safe alternative to synthetic options. When carefully blended together, the essential oils of clove, cinnamon, lemon, eucalyptus, and rosemary synergistically come together to make the oils more powerful together than they are on their own.

This versatile blend can be massaged into the bottoms of the feet for the quickest absorption.

Can be used to treat earaches by rubbing around ears (not in canal) but dilute to a 50/50 ratio.

Diffuse Immunity oil for up to one quarter hour at a time to effectively kill airborne bacteria, but can be ran longer. The strength of Immunity Oil is so concentrated that when diffused it can actually kill invisible germs hanging out in the air you breathe. Break out the Immunity oil around flu season to ward off those sneaky parasites and to prevent buildup of mold and fungus in damp places such as your bathroom.

Can be added to laundry detergent in wash.
